In 1999, Jan Allen founded PayTech, a Payroll and HRIS Consulting Company using a ‘walk beside you approach’ to guide companies through change management. Jan focuses on strategic planning for the growth and success of PayTech, ensuring strong company performance, operational efficiency, and client satisfaction.
OUR STORY
As a 28 year veteran working in the payroll profession Jan recognized a lack of support available within the industry, and saw an opportunity to create a company where various types of client-side payroll support could be provided on a consultative basis.

These Fortune 500 companies would hire Jan for couple of years to manage system transitions only to lay her off after she successfully completed the implementation leaving her in a career which felt unsecure and stagnant. She had a valuable skill set but found that it was only temporarily useful to these companies.
Understanding the lack of support available within the industry, Jan saw an opportunity to create a company where various types of client-side payroll support could be provided on a consultative basis.
In 1999, Jan founded PayTech as the only employee, as most Entrepreneurs do. Out of her basement, she completely self-funded the company and would pitch her services to companies who had never even considered what she was offering. Selling services that the market had never been presented with before was a tiring and challenging task. Persistence paid off, as it usually does, and Jan landed her first major client. The project was so large that Jan needed help. This led her to hire a few 1099 contractors who quickly transitioned into PayTech’s first employees. She quickly saw the niche PayTech filled and huge potential. She reinvested earnings and grew the company organically while acquiring top performers she had worked with through past implementations.
PayTech continues to grow at a steady pace under Jan’s leadership and now has over 150 employees throughout North America.
Many payroll professionals often fall into the occupation by chance. Those who find they are exceptional in the payroll field are often left with few or undesirable career advancement opportunities. Jan was a prime example of this.
She found herself working for several Fortune 500 companies as the payroll director leading their payroll departments. She worked on projects that included system implementations, mergers and acquisitions, training in the field, and helped to open and close offices.

Under Jan’s leadership, PayTech continues to grow at a steady pace and now has over 150 employees throughout North America.
